The Ottoman-venetian castle of Methoni

The castle of Methoni was built by the Venetians in the 16th century in order to secure the silk road. The city was then destroyed by the Turks in 1500 and the castle partly rebuilt. The small octogonal annex which is shown here is called a Bourtzi (Μπούρτζι), it served both as an observation point and a prison.
